After the Gujarat Titans coolly tamed the Royal Challengers in a jam-packed Bengaluru stadium on Wednesday, GT skipper Shubman Gill hopped onto X and dropped a not-so-subtle nugget of wisdom: “Eyes on the game, not the noise.”
Now, on the surface, this looks like your everyday, post-match flex. But cricket Twitter? Oh no, they don’t let things slide that easily!
One fan commented, “Virat was making too much noise when Bhuvi got Gill out.” Another was quick to remind everyone of the fiery send-off Kohli gave to Gill. Coincidence? Or classic cricket drama?
Gujarat restricted hosts Bengaluru to 169/8 and chasing a 170-run target, opener Gill was sent back for 14. The moment he got out, Virat celebrated in his regular animated manner, making fans think as if he gave his countryman a sendoff.
His wicket didn't let RCB claw their way back into the contest as Jos Buttler blasted an unbeaten 39-ball-73 and powered GT to victory with 13 balls to spare.
So, what do you think? Was Gill throwing some well-aimed shade at the former RCB captain? Or are fans just connecting dots that don’t even exist?
What Gill said after the match:
Following the match, skipper Gill said during the post-match presentation, "We have seen on this ground, that restricting them to 170 was a good effort. The wicket has something in it sometimes; you can score 250 as well as get early wickets, there was something for the fast bowlers in the first 7-8 overs and we knew if we pick early wickets then we are in the game. You are disappointed (on his team's dropped catches), but you need to keep coming back and grab the next opportunity. We batted professionally, considering the wicket. It is all about adapting to the situation and playing according to that."
