Liberal Lee Jae-myung wins South Korean Presidential race

Lee Jae-myung is South Korea’s new president. This after a snap election was triggered by a brief period of martial law imposed by the now-impeached former leader, Yoon Suk Yeol.

Election commission data shows the liberal candidate Lee won 49.42% of nearly 35 million votes cast, while his conservative rival Kim Moon-soo had taken 41.15%.

White House boasts expedited deportation of terror suspect’s family

To the US now and the White House in a post on X has boasted that the family of the suspect in the Boulder attack “could be deported by tonight”.

This after US immigration authorities took into custody the family of Mohamed Sabry Soliman, the man who allegedly used a flamethrower to attack a Colorado rally for Israeli hostages. Donald Trump has blamed the attack, which the FBI has deemed an “act of terrorism”, on his predecessor, arguing it was the result of Joe Biden’s “ridiculous Open Border Policy”.

Former Special Government Employee Elon Musk has hit out at President Donald Trump's "big beautiful" signature tax and spending bill, describing it as a "disgusting abomination". Slamming the legislation, passed by the House of Representatives in May, Musk decried on X - "shame on those who voted for it".

Dutch government collapses; Elections likely in October

In Europe, the Dutch government has collapsed after the far-right leader Geert Wilders pulled his party out of the ruling coalition in a row over immigration and asylum policy.

Dutch prime minister, Dick Schoof, handed in his resignation and that of his 11-month-old cabinet to King Willem-Alexander, adding that he considered Wilders’s decision “irresponsible and unnecessary”. New elections most likely will take place in October.

Wilders, whose populist, anti-Islam Freedom party (PVV) finished as the largest in parliament in the last election, said he would “fight the coming elections to make the PVV even stronger” and “with the aim of becoming prime minister next time”.
