'The Last Samurai', 'Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation', 'Top Gun: Maverick', ' Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning' and it continues. We are talking about Tom Cruise and his mind-blowing filmography. Known for his high-octane roles and charismatic screen presence, he is reportedly in line for an honorary knighthood from King Charles III.

According to sources cited by the Daily Mail, Cruise's team has been approached regarding this prestigious recognition, which could coincide with the actor's birthday in July.

What is an honorary knighthood?

An honorary knighthood is one of the highest accolades the British Crown can bestow upon individuals who have made significant contributions to society, culture, or international relations.

While traditionally reserved for British citizens, non-British nationals are eligible for honorary titles, allowing them to use post-nominal letters.

Is Tom Cruise the first to get this honour?

If awarded, Cruise would join a distinguished group of honorary knights and dames, including director Christopher Nolan, who was honoured in December 2024. Other notable recipients include Steven Spielberg, Angelina Jolie, and Bill Gates, all recognised by the late Queen Elizabeth II for their exceptional contributions to film, humanitarian efforts, and global health, respectively.

Cruise's potential knighthood would not only celebrate his illustrious career spanning decades but also highlight his impact on the global stage. From his breakout role in ‘Top Gun’ to his enduring portrayal of Ethan Hunt in the ‘Mission: Impossible’ series, Cruise has consistently captivated audiences worldwide.

On the other hand, Tom Cruise is set to be awarded the British Film Institute (BFI) Fellowship, recognising his outstanding contributions to UK cinema. This prestigious honour places him in esteemed company, following British-American filmmaker Christopher Nolan, who received the same accolade in February 2024, shortly before being knighted by King Charles III.

In Cruise's case, the actor has made substantial contributions to British cinema over the years. The BFI Fellowship, which can be awarded to US citizens who have significantly impacted British science, fashion, military service, or the arts, reflects this influence.

Cruise also shares a warm rapport with the Royal Family most notably demonstrated when he accompanied Prince William and Kate Middleton to the ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ premiere in London in 2022.

Tom Cruise ready for his next release

Tom Cruise is busy promoting the latest installment in the 'Mission: Impossible' franchise. 'Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning' is set to release in India on May 17, 2025, ahead of its global debut. Just days ago, the makers revealed that the much-awaited film's release has been moved up by six days from its original date of May 23.
