A severe flash flood in the Texas Hill Country killed at least 82 people, including 28 children. The flooding occurred on the 4th of July after the nearby Guadalupe River rose rapidly following incessant rainfall.

In under two hours, the river swelled over 20 feet, creating a wave of flood that swept away cabins and vehicles overnight. Among the worst hit was Camp Mystic in Kerr County, where at least a dozen children are missing.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott called the scene "horrendously ravaged" in a social media post. On Sunday, President Donald Trump signed a major disaster declaration for Kerr County at Abbott's request. Trump said he would visit Texas 'probably on Friday', noting he had wanted to go Sunday but would have been "in their way."
