Wasim Akram recently claimed that the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is “Number 1 in talent,” arguing that it offers “quality over quantity” and praising its shorter 35–40-day format. His comments came while criticising the long duration of the IPL, even saying that “kids grow up” by the time the tournament ends. He also added that many overseas players supposedly consider PSL better.
But the reality is different. IPL’s competition level is so intense that even global stars don’t always get a guaranteed place in the playing XI. That is why top players like Faf du Plessis, Moeen Ali, and David Warner preferred PSL over IPL auctions. Meanwhile, Corbin Bosch, Mitchell Owen, and Kusal Mendis chose IPL even after having PSL contracts.
PSL often becomes a stage for retired players or a pathway for those not yet IPL-ready. When it comes to talent depth and competition, IPL remains unmatched.
