Pani Puri, or as some like to call it, Golgappa, has been a beloved street food staple across India for decades. However, like many street foods, it looks like even Golgappa is in danger. In today’s episode of Weird or Wow, we bring to you ice-cream golgappa.
Recently, a food enthusiast was spotted creating an outrageous twist on the humble Pani Puri: puris stuffed with scoops of vanilla ice cream. Not only that, the panipuri seller even drenched the puris in vibrant syrups, and topped with sev. Yes, you read that correctly.
The internet was shocked, but the vendor did not stop there. Next, he made another abominable panipuri. This time he made them as kala khatta pani puri!
Instead of the familiar crispiness of the puris, you’re presented with the soft, shaved ice typically found in a summer gola. And, of course, it wouldn’t be complete without a generous drizzle of kala khatta syrup.
Many users commented on the viral video. While one pointed out the hygiene issues, "Glove is in the wrong hand...and just wanna know how to vomit on online posts," another netizen commented, "Is golgappe wale ko isi Pani me duba do...dobara kabhi aise golgappe nai banaega."
Another Facebook user wrote, "Bro if thats vanila ice cream, I want those guys to attend therapy cause their mind is not at right place!"
Social media users were outraged by the idea of spoiling their favourite snack. Another comment on the Facebook video read, "Ewww...kch bhi..bhai gloves dusre hath me phn na jyada jaruri h look at the last finger nail."
According to legends, panipuri was apparently invented by Draupadi as an answer to her mother-in-law Kunti’s challenge. Yes, you read that right. In an article published by the Times Of India, they claimed that our favourite phuchka was made by Draupadi for the very first time.
Draupadi’s challenge was to make food that would satisfy the hunger of everyone in the family with some left-over vegetables and enough dough to make one puri. According to legend this was when Drapadi came up with the idea of panipuri.
So, whether you’re a purist or an adventurer in the world of food, one thing is clear: Pani Puri’s reigns in everyone's hearts. So tell us, would you try the new version of pani puri or are you good with the old one?
