A Class 10 boy died by suicide after alleging constant humiliation by his teachers, and the principal stayed silent. Stories like this are no longer rare; every day, we’re seeing children across India facing ragging, punishment, pressure, and harassment inside schools that are supposed to protect them.

NCRB data shows over 13,000 student suicides in 2022. Investigations begin only after a life is lost, but the real question is: when will schools fix what’s happening inside their classrooms, corridors, and staff rooms?

Counselling, anti-harassment policies, and accountability must be the first priority, not an afterthought.
