Sanju Samson in CSK yellow? What once felt like a dream might remain that—a dream. The Rajasthan Royals (RR) have begun exploring trade options for their captain, and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have emerged as one of the interested franchises. However, the talks have hit a snag. As per reports, RR is demanding top-tier talent in return—names like Ruturaj Gaikwad or Ravindra Jadeja. They’ve even proposed Shivam Dube as a third alternative. But CSK is firmly not budging on those.
Samson, for his part, has already formally requested a release or trade, signalling mounting tension between him and RR management. The fallout reportedly began after the Royals made the difficult call to release Jos Buttler—a move Samson described as “one of the most challenging decisions” in his career.
CSK’s doors haven’t closed. Reports indicate they are “definitely looking at” Samson—potentially as a long-term successor to Dhoni but the deal might not happen at all. Analysts and fans have speculated wildly: some suggest CSK could release Ravichandran Ashwin to clear purse space, but swapping a big name looks rather unlikely.
Meanwhile, RR is caught between a rock and a hard place. Samson remains under contract for two more years after being retained for ₹18 crore, giving the franchise full control until a deal happens. Without a suitable trade partner, Samson may yet remain in red and gold for another season.
The emotional toll of these shifts hasn't gone unnoticed. Samson, deeply affected by the loss of Buttler, a player he always described as an “elder brother”, has openly questioned IPL release policies, calling for rules that preserve long-term relationships.
What if no deal materializes? Samson could well don a different jersey in 2026. Or, another dramatic chapter could begin, him staying put in Jaipur. Either way, this tense deal or no-deal affair between RR and CSK has fans and pundits alike hooked.
