Zomato, one of India’s leading food delivery platforms, has decided to rebrand itself as ‘Eternal Limited’. This major change, announced on February 6 via an exchange filing, is still subject to approvals from shareholders, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, and other statutory authorities. But why is Zomato making this move?

Why the Name Change?

In an internal communication, Deepinder Goyal, Founder & CEO of Zomato, explained the reason behind the rebranding. He revealed that when Zomato acquired Blinkit, they internally started using the name “Eternal” to differentiate between the parent company and its multiple brands, including Blinkit.

According to Goyal, the company had always planned to rename itself publicly once it expanded beyond just food delivery. With Blinkit’s rapid growth, the company believes that time has come.

What Will Change for Users?

The Zomato App Stays the Same: The rebranding only affects the parent company’s name, not the Zomato food delivery app. Users can continue to order food as usual.

Blinkit’s Growing Role: The renaming reflects Blinkit’s importance in Zomato’s business model, positioning itself as a key player in quick commerce.

Stock Market Impact: Investors are watching closely to see how this rebranding affects Zomato’s long-term growth strategy.

What’s Next?

Before this name change becomes official, it needs approvals from shareholders and government authorities. Once cleared, Eternal Limited will become the new corporate identity while Zomato and Blinkit will continue operating under their existing brand names.

Eternal will then have four verticals, i.e. Zomato, Blinkit, Hyperpure and District. All will come under the roof of Eternal. As Goyal said in a statement, "This isn't just a name change; it is a mission statement".

This strategic move signals Zomato’s shift from being a food delivery brand to a broader e-commerce entity. Will it redefine India’s quick commerce space? Only time will tell.

Final Thoughts

Zomato’s decision to rebrand as ‘Eternal’ highlights the changing landscape of digital commerce. With Blinkit playing a larger role, this could be the beginning of a new era for the company.
