From pace to panic: Prasidh Krishna sets Test cricket’s worst records

Prasidh Krishna just made history—in the worst way possible. With the most expensive economy rate in Test cricket history, he turned England’s collapse into a comeback. India had control, until he bowled. This isn’t a one-off disaster—it’s becoming a pattern.

It seems like Prasidh Krishna just can’t get enough of conceding runs. And boy, is he consistent about it! He’s now officially the proud owner of one of the most embarrassingly elite records in Test cricket.

In the first innings of the Birmingham Test, he leaked so many runs that it set a new low in the 148-year history of Test cricket. No other bowler, who has bowled at least 500 balls, has ever been smashed for more runs than him. His career economy rate of over 5 is now the worst for any Test bowler. So technically, he has made history… just not the kind you brag about at reunions.

He gave away 50 runs in his first 5 overs — a start so generous even England probably didn’t expect it. That spell was also the most expensive by an Indian bowler in Tests since 2006. So not only is he breaking records, he’s digging up ancient ones and smashing them too.

India had a firm grip on the match when they had England struggling at 84/5. And then came Prasidh… flipping the script and the match, completely in England’s favour.

He gave away 23 runs in a single over to Jamie Smith, handing him so much confidence that he suddenly looked like peak AB de Villiers. And Prasidh? Well, he still looked like Prasidh. That over ended up being the 4th most expensive by an Indian in Test history. India still managed a 180-run lead in the first innings — but let’s be honest, had Prasidh not been this expensive, India might have enforced the follow-on. The margin was just 20 runs!

And no, this isn’t some isolated disaster. It’s more like a sequel. In both innings of the first Test, Prasidh Krishna bowled with an economy of over 6. It’s practically becoming his trademark.

Even Iceland Cricket took a shot at him — and when a Twitter account from a country with almost zero cricketing background roasts you, things have truly hit rock bottom. What stings even more is knowing a pacer like Arshdeep Singh is just sitting on the bench, waiting.

On one hand, Shubman Gill has become a run-machine for India, and on the other, Prasidh Krishna is giving him solid competition — one scores them, the other leaks them. Gotta love the balance!
