Digvesh Rathi bags a ₹38 lakh DPL deal, out-earning his IPL contract, with a Sehwag and Kohli heir also making surprise appearances at the auction.

Digvesh Rathi, the breakout star of IPL 2024, is fast becoming one of Indian cricket’s most talked-about young names. Picked by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for just ₹30 lakh, Rathi has turned heads with both his performances and his ever-viral notebook celebration. But now, the young pacer is making headlines for something far bigger.

5 Wickets in 5 Balls and a ₹38 Lakh DPL Deal

Recently, Rathi delivered a once-in-a-lifetime performance in a domestic T20 match, claiming 5 wickets in 5 balls, a feat that had social media and selectors buzzing. His stock soared instantly, and the Delhi Premier League (DPL) auction became his next stage. The result? A jaw-dropping ₹38 lakh signing, making him one of the highest-paid players in the league, even more than what he earned in the IPL.

Clearly, LSG's scouting team has struck gold with Rathi.

Cricket Royalty Joins the DPL Pool

The DPL 2025 auction wasn’t just about rising stars, it featured familiar surnames too. Former India opener Virender Sehwag’s sons, Aryavir (17) and Vedant (14), entered the fray. Aryavir fetched ₹8 lakh, while Vedant, despite solid junior cricket performances, remained unsold this season. At just 14, his time will surely come.

Another surprise addition? Aryaveer Kohli, leg-spinner and nephew of Virat Kohli, who was quietly picked up for ₹1 lakh by Ayush Badoni’s team, South Delhi Superstarz. A lesser-known name, but one to watch in the future.

Veterans Undervalued, Young Guns in Demand

The DPL auction told a compelling story — the next generation is here, and it’s loud.

  • Simarjeet Singh topped the charts with a ₹39 lakh bid

  • Nitish Rana followed closely at ₹34 lakh

  • Meanwhile, a seasoned name like Ishant Sharma only got ₹13 lakh

  • Suyash Sharma (₹15 lakh) went surprisingly cheap

One more name from the LSG stable to make waves was Prince Yadav, snapped up for ₹33 lakh by New Delhi Tigers. It’s becoming increasingly clear: LSG’s emerging players are in massive demand, and domestic leagues are ready to invest in youth.

Rathi’s Notebook Is Now a Full Chapter

From being a bargain buy to becoming a star attraction, Digvesh Rathi is no longer just a prospect, he’s a headline. And if his trajectory continues, this ₹38 lakh DPL signing might just be the beginning.
