Rumours of Apple working on a foldable device grow stronger by the day. Naturally the, it would be safe to assume that Apple is almost set to finally enter foldable smartphone game. However, it looks like its first foldable will come with a jaw-dropping price.
Analysts predict that Apple’s first foldable iPhone could be priced around $2,300 in the US, making it the most expensive iPhone ever.
A pricey leap into foldables
According to a report by GSM Arena, Barclays analyst Tim Long, who gathered insights from Apple’s supply chain meetings in Asia, believes the foldable iPhone will be nearly double the price of the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which starts at $1,199. With that kind of pricing, this futuristic device might not be for everyone.
Foldable smartphones already cater to a niche market, and Apple’s high-end approach could keep it that way.
Long suggests that while Apple fans are known for their loyalty, this premium pricing might make buyers think twice. Unless Apple offers something revolutionary, mass adoption could be a challenge.
What to expect from Apple’s foldable iPhone
Renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also believes that the foldable iPhone will land somewhere between $2,000 and $2,500. He believes its success will depend on Apple’s ability to create a high-quality, crease-free display—something current foldables still struggle with.
Rumours suggest the device will feature a 7.8-inch inner folding display, a 5.5-inch cover screen, and a dual-camera setup on the back, along with a front camera. Unlike recent iPhones, it may swap Face ID for a Touch ID power button. A high-density battery is also expected, promising long-lasting usage.
To keep things sleek, Apple might go with a titanium frame and a hinge made from titanium and stainless steel. When unfolded, the device could be just 4.5mm thin—one of Apple’s slimmest designs ever.
When will it hit the market
If reports are accurate, Apple could begin mass production of its foldable iPhone in late 2026, setting the stage for a 2027 launch. While the pricing might raise eyebrows, Apple seems focused on delivering a premium, durable design rather than making the device affordable.
For now, foldable iPhones continue to be a pricey dream, but Apple’s entry into the market could shake things up. Whether it’ll be a game-changer or just an ultra-expensive flex, we’ll have to wait and see.
