The 6.9-inch Super Retina XDR is stunning.

The 6.9-inch Super Retina XDR is stunning.

Every year, Apple says it’s made its best iPhone yet. Most times, that means a few small changes and a familiar experience. This year feels different.

The iPhone 17 Pro Max actually feels new — and more importantly, better.

I’ve been using it for two weeks, and three things jumped out immediately: the new design, the smooth performance, and the battery life. These three alone make it feel more complete than any recent iPhone.

iPhone 17 Pro Max Design: Finally Feels Fresh

Apple’s been repeating its design formula for a while. The 17 Pro Max finally breaks that loop. The titanium frame is gone, replaced by a solid aluminum body. It feels sturdier in hand, and stays cooler when you’re pushing the phone hard. You can feel that difference.

I’ve been using the Deep Blue model. It’s subtle and clean — not as flashy as the Orange Cosmic you see on Instagram. The two-tone finish looks great in person. It adds character without feeling loud.

The camera bump is bigger now, but smarter. It gives your fingers a natural resting spot, and since the lenses sit deeper, the phone wobbles less on a table. There’s still a bit of movement, but not much.

I saw early reports about scratches on the camera housing. After two weeks, mine has a few light scuffs — nothing major, just the usual signs of daily use. If you’re someone who likes their phone spotless, you’ll want a case.

Speaking of which, Apple sent me the Clear MagSafe Case. It’s grippy, adds decent protection, and looks cleaner than those old “MagSafe ring” cases. The white patch on the back is the only odd part. It suits the silver model but looks off on Deep Blue or Orange. Wish Apple made colour-matched versions.

At 6.9 inches, this is still a big phone. It’s heavier than before, and you’ll feel it if you’re coming from a smaller iPhone. But thanks to the rounded edges and balanced weight, it doesn’t feel bulky anymore. It’s big, yes — but comfortable.

More RAM and Faster A19 Pro Chip Performance

The A19 Pro chip makes this phone feel quick in a way that’s hard to describe. It’s not just fast — it’s consistently fast. Apps stay open longer. Switching between FaceTime, Instagram, and Notes feels instant. No reloads, no lag.

Apple never mentions RAM, but it’s reportedly 12GB, up from 8GB last year. That, plus the improved cooling, makes a huge difference.

I tried to push it — video calls, music streaming, photo uploads, social media, all at once. The 17 Pro Max stayed cool. No overheating, no dimming, no slowdowns. I even gamed for two hours straight, and it never got uncomfortably warm.

This is easily the smoothest iPhone experience I’ve had in years.

iPhone 17 Pro Max: Battery Life and Charging

Apple’s Pro Max phones have always been about battery life. And this year, it’s back in full form.

On paper, it’s a small bump — 4832mAh vs 4685mAh last year — but the optimization is excellent. I’m getting close to 10 hours of screen time, and still end most days with 25 to 30 percent left.

Charging’s faster too. 40W wired and 25W wireless (Qi 2.2). You hit 50% in around 20 minutes, and the phone stays cool.

Low Power Mode also feels smarter now. It saves battery without slowing the phone down. That makes it easy to trust the phone on long days.

If you’ve been carrying a charger everywhere with the 16 Pro Max, this one fixes that.

iPhone 17 Pro Max Cameras: Practical Upgrades That Matter

You get three 48MP cameras again, but this year the 4x telephoto is the one to talk about. It replaces the 5x from last year. I thought that’d feel like a step back, but it’s actually more useful in daily life.

The 8x digital zoom is surprisingly good — detailed, stable, and genuinely usable. It’s become the zoom I use most often.

Photos look sharp and consistent across lenses. Sure, Vivo X200 Pro takes cleaner portraits and Pixel 10 nails skin tones better, but Apple’s reliability wins.

Video quality is still class-leading. You get 4K Dolby Vision, ProRes, and the new Dual Capture mode that records with the front and back cameras together. It’s great for vlog-style content.

The front camera has been upgraded too. The new 18MP Centre Stage lens has a square sensor that handles portrait and landscape selfies without needing to rotate the phone. It also keeps your face in frame during FaceTime calls — perfect for when you’re walking or moving around.

If you’re upgrading from a 14 Pro or older, this camera setup is a big step up. From a 16 Pro, it’s more refinement than revolution.

Software: iOS 26 and the Liquid Glass Look

The phone ships with iOS 26. The new Liquid Glass interface looks modern but can be polarizing. Some people find the text a bit harder to read. Personally, I’ve started to like it. It pairs well with the new hardware.

The icon customization options are… okay. The tinted and transparent ones feel unnecessary. I stayed with the default.

Apple Intelligence, the company’s new AI suite, is still finding its way. Tools like Visual Intelligence, Image Playground, and AI Eraser are fun to try, but nothing life-changing yet. Apple’s playing catch-up here, but the foundation is solid.

The long-term support helps too — six to seven years of updates is still unmatched.

iPhone 17 Pro Max Display: Brighter and Beautiful as Ever

The display hasn’t changed much, but it didn’t need to. The 6.9-inch Super Retina XDR is stunning — crisp, colorful, and smooth at 120Hz.

The big update is brightness. It now peaks at 3,000 nits, which makes a real difference outdoors. Even under harsh sunlight, everything stays visible and clear.

Stereo speakers sound great too — loud, rich, and balanced. Watching videos or gaming feels immersive.

Verdict: Should You Buy the iPhone 17 Pro Max?

After a few quiet years, the iPhone 17 Pro Max finally feels like a true “Pro” upgrade. It’s powerful, cool, long-lasting, and beautifully built.

It’s still expensive at ₹1,49,990, and for most people, the regular iPhone 17 — now with a 120Hz screen — is the better deal.

But if you want the best Apple has to offer — the biggest battery, the largest screen, and the most flexible camera setup — the 17 Pro Max finally feels worth it.

It’s not a revolution, but it’s the most complete iPhone Apple’s made in years.
