Nintendo has unveiled the highly anticipated Switch 2, priced at $450, during its latest Nintendo Direct event. Packed with advanced features, the console has gamers worldwide buzzing, yet Indian fans might be left disappointed as Nintendo has no plans for an official launch in the country.
Grey market gears up
Despite the lack of official availability, the grey market is ready to step in, ensuring that die-hard Indian gamers don’t miss out. Sources quoted by IGN India reveal that traders have started stocking the Switch 2, with some gamers even securing units by paying deposits.
However, this comes at a hefty cost—grey market prices are predicted to soar 45% higher than retail, setting the initial price around ₹55,000. Prices may later stabilise at ₹45,000, but importing the console personally won’t offer much relief due to shipping and customs charges.
Impressive new features
The Nintendo Switch 2 promises significant upgrades, including a 7.9-inch 1080p LCD screen and 4K 120fps support when docked. It introduces upgraded Joy-Cons with mouse controls, a built-in GameChat voice feature, 256GB storage, and spatial 3D sound. These advancements aim to elevate gaming experiences, making the console a worthy successor.
Worth the premium?
While the Switch 2 undoubtedly delivers cutting-edge features, Indian gamers face a dilemma: should they pay grey market premiums or wait in hope that Nintendo eventually enters the Indian market officially? The decision ultimately depends on individual passion and patience for the world of gaming.
