Vivo's Vision Discovery Edition Glasses will debut on August 21 in China.

Apple’s Vision Pro might have set the bar for mixed reality headsets, but Vivo’s about to step into the ring with something that looks like a serious contender.

The Chinese tech brand has confirmed that its Vision Discovery Edition Glasses will debut on August 21, complete with a teaser video flaunting its sleek design.

Vision Pro looks with a Vivo twist

From the teaser alone, it’s hard to ignore the similarities to Apple’s headset. Vivo’s model rocks a premium metal frame, a large front visor (most likely hiding the display), and even a digital crown on the side. That crown isn’t just for aesthetic, it’s expected to control pass through modes, letting you flip between virtual and real-world views in an instant.

Hong Yi, Vivo’s General Manager of Smart Device Products, spilled more on Weibo. The headset will feature precision gesture controls so lifelike, you’ll feel like you’re actually grabbing and moving virtual objects. Yi even claimed Vivo is the only brand apart from Apple to pull off this level of interaction.

Hand gestures that feel like magic

Yi says the Vision Discovery Edition Glasses break away from flat, 2D controls and go full instinct mode.

Think about grabbing a virtual prop mid-game or dragging and dropping floating documents in your workspace, all with just your hands.

The headset is also designed to be ultra-lightweight, meaning you can wear it for extended sessions without feeling like you’re carrying gym weights on your head.

Inside, the device is tipped to run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 4nm-based chip. That should give it the power for smooth spatial computing without bulking up the design.

Can you buy one?

If you were hoping to pre-order, here’s the catch: the Vision Discovery Edition Glasses won’t be hitting store shelves in 2025. Vivo’s starting small, offering in-store demo sessions across China where users can reserve a spot and try it out. As for global availability, Vivo’s keeping quiet.

This isn’t the first time the headset’s been seen in public. Earlier this year, an early prototype popped up at the Boao Forum for Asia, hinting that Vivo’s been refining the device for months. Now, it’s ready to show the world. Or at least, show those who can make it to a Vivo store in China.
