Anant Singh prime accused

Patna police identified Anant Singh as the main accused in the case. According to the FIR, the JD(U) candidate allegedly shot Yadav, before he was thrashed and then run over with an SUV.

Singh was arrested along with two close aides, Manikant Thakur and Ranjit Ram, and sent to 14-day judicial custody.

The police have constituted a special team to further investigate the case and arrest the other accused in the Mokama murder case.

Criminal history

Anant Singh, also known as 'Chhote Sakar', has many criminal cases over the years.

Singh contested the election in 2020, on RJD ticket, and won the Mokama seat. However, his tenure was cut short after he was convicted under the Arms Act. Singh was sented to 10 years of prison by a court in Patna.

As he got disqualified, his wife, Neelam Devi, contested on the RJD ticket in the 2022 by-poll and won the Mokama seat. Neelam Devi later defected to the National Democratic Alliance during the February 2024 floor test of the Nitish-led government.

Singh was acquitted in the Arms Act case due to a lack of evidence.

In 2025, he was again booked in the Nauranga-Jalalpur firing case after a confrontation with the Sonu-Monu gang. He again secured bail in the case and joined JD(U) for a political comeback.

Jan Suraaj, chief Prashant Kishor and other opposition parties like the RJD and Congress have hit out at the ruling JDU over the violence. Mahagathbandhan's Chief Ministerial candidate Tejashwi Yadav mocked CM Nitish Kumar's law and order promise, considering his own party allegedly resorted to murder.
