India has seen an increase in COVID cases, with active cases rising to 1,009 as of the morning of May 26th. According to the Health Ministry’s COVID dashboard, Kerala currently has the highest number of active cases at 430, followed by Maharashtra with 209. Delhi’s tally has also risen to 104. Over the past week, 752 new cases have been reported across the country.
Monsoon in Mumbai
The southwest monsoon has arrived over Mumbai more than two weeks earlier than usual. According to Met Department officials, this is the earliest onset of rains in the country’s financial capital in 75 years. Persistent rainfall has caused waterlogging across the city, disrupting Mumbai’s suburban train services. Operations on Metro line 3 between Acharya Atre Chowk and Worli were also suspended after rains flooded an underground station.

Rains wreaks havoc in Karnataka
Heavy monsoon rains have also wreaked havoc in Karnataka’s coastal belt. Continuous rainfall for the third consecutive day has disrupted normal life in Dakshina Kannada district. NDRF teams have been deployed for relief and rescue efforts.
PM Modi’s roadshow in Vadodara
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a roadshow in Vadodara on Monday morning upon arriving in Gujarat for a two-day visit. The family of Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, the Indian Army officer who became the face of Operation Sindoor press briefings, attended the roadshow. PM Modi later shared a photo of them from the event.
All-party delegation to reach Panama
India’s all-party parliamentary delegation, led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, will visit Panama starting Tuesday. The panel is on a multi-nation tour to convey India’s zero-tolerance stance on terrorism, following the April 22 terror attack. The delegation has already visited the United States and Guyana.

Market gains on Monday
Indian equities started the week strongly. The Sensex gained over half a percent, closing above 82,200. The Nifty also bounced back to 25,000.
