Phase 1 of Bihar’s assembly elections will be held tomorrow, Nov 6; of the 243 constituencies in the state, 121 - spread across 18 districts - will go to the ballot.

Remember, phase 1 has some heavyweights in the fray. This includes RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav and his estranged elder brother Tej Pratap Yadav of the Janshakti Janata Dal. Other notable names include Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Samrat Choudhary, along with the party’s cultural pick Maithili Thakur.

Rahul Gandhi alleges 25 lakh votes manipulated in Haryana

In other news, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday claimed widespread electoral fraud - this time in Haryana. Sharing details of what he called the “H files”, Gandhi alleged that last year’s Haryana assembly elections were “stolen” after 25 lakh votes were manipulated.

The Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition subsequently attacked the Election Commission of India declaring that the EC was working at the behest of the BJP.

NYC mayor-elect Mamdani quotes former Indian PM Nehru

Shifting focus, Indian-origin Zohran Mamdani scripted history by becoming the first Muslim mayor of New York City.

Quoting former Indian PM Jawaharlal Nehru in his victory speech, Mamdani said that the people of NYC toppled a ‘political dynasty’. He added that the victory meant they were stepping out from “the old into the new”.

At 34, the Democratic socialist is also NYC’s youngest mayor in more than a century.

Typhoon Kalmaegi claims 66 lives in Philippines

Elsewhere, at least 66 people have been killed as Typhoon Kalmaegi, one of the strongest typhoons this year, ripped through the central Philippines.

The typhoon has flooded entire towns on the most populated central island of Cebu, where 49 of the fatalities were reported.
