Google’s biggest ever investment in India

Shifting focus, tech behemoth Google is set to invest $15 billion in India over the next five years.

The move will mark Google’s biggest ever investment in India and will result in its largest AI hub outside the US. This after Google boss Sundar Pichai spoke with Prime Minister Narendra Modi for its artificial intelligence hub in Andhra Pradesh’s Visakhapatnam.

The Indian-origin CEO called it a “landmark development” with PM Modi saying it will be “a powerful force in democratising technology”.

Cape Verde becomes 2nd-smallest country at FIFA World Cup

And in sports, Cape Verde became the second-smallest country ever to qualify for the FIFA World Cup. The West African nation with a population of a little over 500,000 will play at next year’s World Cup after beating Eswatini 3-0 in their last group match.

The win meant they would top the standings ahead of Cameroon and complete a fairytale campaign.

Fun fact - Iceland with its 350,000 inhabitants holds the record for the smallest nation to partake in a FIFA World Cup - something it achieved in Russia in 2018.
