Calorie counts on a wedding menu – hard to believe, right? Well, that’s exactly what guests at a wedding in West Bengal encountered when they saw a menu with calorie values listed next to each dish. Held at Chaity Hall, this wedding broke tradition with a unique twist, as shared by a Reddit user who attended after a long hiatus. The menu didn’t just list food—it detailed the calorific content of each item, surprising and delighting guests with its thoughtful approach.

A quirky and detailed menu

The menu opened with a polite note: “Please make yourselves comfortable and enjoy the dinner without wasting food, which is soon to be served on behalf of us.” Below this, a playful header read “Calorie memo (or meme?)”, followed by a list of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, each marked with a symbol and its calorie count. The total reached 1200 kilocalories. A fun footnote urged guests to dance off the calories, while GST was cheekily rebranded as “Games and Stall Tax”, suggesting that games had offset any indulgence at the stalls.

Social media reactions

The post went viral, sparking varied responses online. One user called it “Gym goers ka dream menu in shaadi,” while another wrote, “Love this. It helps people understand the consequences of their food habits.” A third quipped, “Menu made by a developer!” and another praised it as “a nice menu card idea.” The blend of humour and health awareness struck a chord, turning a simple menu into a talking point.

Other quirky wedding menus

This wasn’t the first time a wedding menu stood out. In 2023, a couple in Hyderabad, both scientists, presented theirs like a research paper, complete with an introduction, conclusion, and tables detailing the wedding schedule. In 2024, a Delhi wedding menu mimicked a corporate report, listing dishes as “quarterly goals” with “nutritional ROI”—a nod to the groom’s finance background.

Another, from Kerala in 2022, offered a QR code linking to a video of each dish’s preparation, blending tech with tradition. These instances show how couples are reimagining menus to reflect personality and purpose, making weddings memorable beyond the feast.
