Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and leader of the Telugu Desam Party, N. Chandrababu Naidu, has laid the foundation stone for his residence in Amaravati, the capital of the state of Andhra Pradesh. This indicates a renewed push for the capital city project, which had slowed down after Naidu's electoral loss in 2019.The Andhra CM acquired the land for the residence recently in the heart of Amaravati. The plot is near E9 road in the city, behind the Velagapudi Secretariat. According to a report by The New Indian Express, Naidu’s decision to settle in Amaravati has delighted locals, who see it as a sign of confidence in the region’s future. His decision marks a symbolic step in the ongoing revival of the capital region.
Amaravati: Naidu’s Dream Project
The development of Amaravati as the capital of Andhra Pradesh began following the state’s bifurcation in 2014. After its bifurcation, the state lost its erstwhile capital Hyderabad to Telangana and was left with no capital. In 2015, N. Chandrababu Naidu announced the decision to make Amaravati the capital of Andhra.
Naidu’s Loss: Impact on Capital
However, the project to develop the new capital city of Andhra Pradesh slowed down after Naidu lost in the 2019 assembly elections and the YSR Congress party came to power. But with Naidu back as the CM of the state in 2024, his dream project seems to be back on track.
Naidu Revives Stalled Projects
Naidu is often recognised as the architect of Amaravati. His return to power has refuelled the project to build a world-class city in Amaravati. According to a report by The New Indian Express, the Andhra Pradesh CM has restarted stalled projects, finalised tenders, and invited global firms to contribute, aiming to lift the state from having no capital to boasting one of India’s finest cities.
