Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has issued a statement in response to growing complaints from parents regarding the questionable practices of private schools in Delhi. The parents have raised concerns about issues such as fee hikes, threats of expulsion for their children, and the withholding of report cards and marksheets due to unpaid fees. “Parents of children from some schools are constantly meeting me and telling me their problems,” CM Rekha Gupta said.She further stated, “It is certain that no school has the right to harass any parent or child, threaten to expel them from school or increase the general fees.”

Notices issued to schools
Chief Minister Gupta confirmed that the Delhi government is going to be taking action in response to the complaints raised by parents. She said “Today, in my knowledge, for one school all the complaints of the parents that came out, we have sent notices,” she said. “We have issued notices to all the schools against which we are receiving complaints,” she added.

Schools must follow rules
Chief Minister Gupta made it clear that schools must comply with established regulations. “There are rules and laws for this, which are very important to follow,” she said. “No school has the right to harass any parent or child, threaten to expel them from school or increase the general fees,” she further stated.

Warning to violating schools
Chief Minister Gupta further added issuing a warning to the schools saying that “Whichever school decides to harass the parents or the children, they will have to suffer the consequences of that behavior,” she said.

Education is a right
Chief Minister Gupta concluded by further emphazing, “Education is a right, not a business,” reinforcing the government’s stance on the importance of education as a fundamental right for all children.
