US President Donald Trump has spoken about the assassination attempt against him, stating, “If you think about it, I shouldn't be here with you right now.”
In a TV interview Trump explained that the shooter had a clear shot, and even his sons, who are experienced shooters, found it unbelievable that the bullet missed. He said, "Well, if you think about it, I shouldn't be here with you right now. You know, I have sons that are great shots. They said it's not possible to miss from that distance. That wasn't a complete miss, you know, I still get that little throbbing feeling, but had I not turned away at that very, very, very instant, I wouldn't be sitting here with you."
The US President added, "So in that way, but I think you might be talking about, because I think praying before the fact, but after that, I think it might have been to a new level. I've had great support, and I do feel the support. I really do, and I think, you know, somebody said that God saved me in order to save this country."
Trump also attributed this to some kind of divine intervention. He said, "This country was going down, Greg. If this election wasn't won, this country had no chance. This country is gonna be—remember I used to say for years—we're gonna be Venezuela on steroids. And that's what was happening to the country, and now we're turning it around, and I think we're turning it around fast."
The assassination attempt
The assassination attempt took place during a rally in Pennsylvania on July 13, 2024. A gunman fired multiple shots, one of which grazed Trump’s ear. The shooter, identified as a 20-year-old, was taken down by Secret Service agents. One spectator was killed, and two others were critically injured.
Following the attack, Trump continued his campaign, addressing his supporters with a bandaged ear. The incident intensified security concerns and became a defining moment in the election, with Trump framing it as a battle for America’s future.
