Sonam Raghuvanshi, the “missing” wife of Raja Raghuvanshi—the tourist from Madhya Pradesh who was murdered in Meghalaya—has been taken into custody in Uttar Pradesh. Raja and Sonam, who are from Indore and were in Meghalaya for their honeymoon, went missing on 23 May. After nine days, police found Raja’s murdered body in a gorge on 2 June. But Sonam remained missing until Monday morning, when she called her family from a dhaba in Ghazipur, UP. Now, according to reports quoting police sources, Sonam and her lover are the key accused in the murder probe.

Local train accident
In Maharashtra, at least four local train passengers were killed and six others injured after falling onto the tracks. The accident occurred between Diva and Kopar railway stations in Thane district during the morning rush hour. According to reports, the commuters fell after the backpacks of those standing on the footboards of two trains, travelling in opposite directions, brushed against each other.
11 years of Modi government
The Modi government has completed the first year of its third term. With this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also completed 11 years at the helm. Sharing his thoughts on the occasion, PM Modi said that over the last 11 years, every government scheme has focused on the welfare of the poor and the common man. However, the opposition used the milestone to criticise the government. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge accused it of inflicting serious damage on India’s democracy, economy, and social harmony.
Indian equities continue to rise
From politics to the stock market—Indian equities continued their upward journey on Monday. The Sensex gained three-tenths of a per cent, inching closer to 82,500. The Nifty also recorded similar gains, closing the day at 25,100. Market experts attribute the surge to the surprise 50 basis points interest rate cut and 100 basis points cash reserve ratio cut announced by the RBI last week.
