The United Nations Security Council is set to hold closed-door talks on India-Pakistan tensions later this evening. The meeting was requested by Pakistan, a non-permanent member of the council. This comes as India vows to hold the perpetrators of the Pahalgam terror attack—and their backers—accountable.
Iran’s Foreign Minister to visit India
Amid these developments, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is currently in Pakistan and is scheduled to arrive in India on May 8. Iran’s Embassy in New Delhi confirmed he will hold talks with Indian officials during his visit.
India stops flow of water to Pak
India has stopped the flow of water to Pakistan from the Baglihar Dam on the Chenab River. It is also preparing to limit outflows from the Kishanganga project on the Jhelum. Additionally, the government is boosting storage capacities at hydroelectric projects in Kashmir. It has undertaken sediment removal at both Salal and Baglihar sites. These moves follow India’s decision to pause the Indus Waters Treaty.

PIL against Rahul dismissed
The Allahabad High Court has dismissed a PIL alleging Rahul Gandhi holds dual citizenship. The bench had earlier asked the Centre for the details. After reviewing the response, the court ruled that the petition lacked merit and dismissed the case.
India’s IMF churn
Parameswaran Iyer, Executive Director at the World Bank, has been temporarily given additional charge as India’s nominee director on the IMF Board. This comes after the early termination of KV Subramanian’s tenure. Iyer will hold the post during the key May 9 IMF meeting to review its loan to Pakistan.

Israel’s new Gaza plan
Israel has reportedly approved plans to take full control of the Gaza Strip. According to an AP report citing officials, Israel also plans to maintain a long-term presence in the territory—marking a significant escalation in its operations.
Sitaare Zameen Par poster out
Aamir Khan Productions has released the first poster of Sitaare Zameen Par. The film will introduce 10 debutant actors, starring alongside Aamir Khan and Genelia Deshmukh. Billed as a spiritual successor to the 2007 classic Taare Zameen Par, the film hits theatres on June 20.
