‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ was one of the most iconic Karan Johar films, and we cannot get over it to date. Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, and Rani Mukherjee starrer ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ was a major hit when released in 1998, and fans rewatch it to this day.

But, just imagine, a reboot of K2H2 with new Gen Z and millennial stars! Would you want one of your favourite movies to be remade with a new cast? Director Karan Johar, in a recent interview, revealed his dream cast if he ever remade the film. Any guesses?

Karan Johar’s dream cast for ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai 2’

In a recent conversation with Sania Mirza on Myntra’s Glam Stream, KJo casually dropped a bombshell: if he ever remade ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,’ he already knows who he’d cast. He revealed that he would love to cast Alia Bhatt as Anjali, Ranveer Singh as Rahul, and Ananya Panday as Tina. He also hinted that the role of Tina could alternatively go to Janhvi Kapoor or Sara Ali Khan.

Talking about nepotism, he said, “I know they are nepo babies. I’ve seen them grow up in front of me. But none of their parents have ever called me. I have always been the one to call.” He also mentioned that some actors have even declined his offers.

But do we want a remake of 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai'?

The 1998 film is not just a blockbuster — it’s a cultural artefact. From SRK’s basketball charm and Kajol’s tomboy-to-diva arc to Rani’s iconic college fashion, KKHH became a generational blueprint for modern Bollywood romance.

Remember how 'Student Of The Year 2’ failed at the box office? KJo wanted to remake SOTY’s magic, but it failed at the box office.

While casting Alia, Ranveer, and Ananya does sound exciting, can they recreate the intimacy, innocence and effortless chemistry that SRK, Kajol and Rani had?

If KJo ever greenlights a remake, he would have to rebuild that magic from scratch — without diluting what made it special in the first place. And in a digital age where films are dissected frame by frame, anything less than pitch-perfect would be harshly judged.

So the real question isn’t “Can he remake Kuch Kuch Hota Hai?”

It’s “Should he?”
