Kolkata Police, on Tuesday, issued a warning to those attempting to disclose the identity of the law student who was allegedly gang-raped in the city. In a social media post, the police stated that it had come to their notice that certain individuals were circulating confidential documents or using other means to reveal the survivor’s identity. This, the police added, was a serious violation of the law, and warned of strict legal action against anyone found involved. On Monday, the police collected DNA samples from the three arrested accused — Monojit Mishra, Pratim Mukherjee, and Zaid Ahmed.
Factory blast death toll rises to 36
Moving on to another major story — the Chief Minister of Telangana, Revanth Reddy, has confirmed that the death toll from the explosion at a pharmaceutical factory in Medak has risen to 36. According to government officials, most of the deceased in Monday’s explosion were migrant workers from Odisha, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Telangana. There were 143 people present at the Sigachi Industries factory at the time of the blast. Officials say they are in contact with 56 of them, while efforts are ongoing to trace the others. CM Reddy has said he will engage with the factory management to ensure a compensation of one crore rupees each is paid to the families of those who died.
India–US trade deal ‘very close’: White House
In international news — the Trump administration has reiterated that the United States and India are close to finalising a trade deal. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said both countries are working on the final details, and that the US President and his trade team will make an announcement soon. Highlighting India’s strategic importance in the Asia-Pacific region, Leavitt added that President Trump shares a strong relationship with Prime Minister Modi — one that will continue.

Trump–Musk row escalates
The rift between former allies Donald Trump and Elon Musk appears to be deepening. Hours after the Tesla CEO criticised Republican support for Trump’s massive tax and spending cuts bill, the US President hit back.
In a social media post, Trump took aim at Musk for receiving government subsidies for electric vehicle manufacturing. He wrote, “Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history, by far, and without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa.”

Dalal Street ends marginally higher
Indian equities ended Tuesday’s session with modest gains. The Sensex rose by around a tenth of a per cent, adding about 100 points. The Nifty also posted similar gains, closing the day with a marginal uptick.
