Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inspected Metro pillars in Delhi on Wednesday and condemned their defacement, stressing that government property must be respected and maintained. “No one has the right to damage government property,” said CM Rekha Gupta while directing officials to remove all posters and hoardings from the pillars.
CM Urges Citizen Cooperation
The Chief Minister also urged cooperation from citizens and said, “I request people not to damage government property, this is a question about Delhi’s beauty, we do not have to put any hoardings, posters and banners on the pillars.” She further added that “Maintaining Delhi’s infrastructure requires public cooperation."
Tackling The Stray Menace
During her visit, Rekha Gupta also raised concerns about the increasing presence of stray cows on the roads. The CM directed officials to take immediate steps to safely relocate these animals and prevent further disruptions on the roads in the city.
Delhi Government's Budget Priorities
Chief Minister Gupta’s action reflects the priorities outlined in the ₹1 lakh crore budget she presented on Tuesday, with focus on infrastructure development. The BJP government has allocated a total of ₹3,500 crore for expanding and modernising the Metro network, enhancing connectivity and reducing congestion.It has allocated around ₹12,000 crore for the repair of roads and flyovers in Delhi, and also plans to introduce 5,000 new electric buses to improve public transport. The Delhi government is also setting aside ₹1,000 crore to improve transport links within Delhi-NCR, including elevated corridors and expressways to reduce congestion.Additionally, ₹1,340 crore has been allocated for the rejuvenation of the Yamuna, with plans to clean and restore the river. Another ₹3,126 crore will go towards improving waste management and sanitation facilities across the city. Gupta also announced ₹3,000 crore for road network upgrades, including ₹1,000 crore for streetlight installations and repairs to improve road safety and visibility.
Focus On Modern Infrastructure
CM Rekha Gupta, emphased the government’s vision stating, “Traffic-free expressways, seamless connectivity, elevated corridors, and smart surveillance systems — that’s infrastructure.” This Budget was the first presented by a BJP-led government in Delhi in over 26 years, following the party's victory over the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in last month’s Assembly elections. The BJP’s new budget outlines a clear strategy to modernise Delhi’s infrastructure and improve urban living conditions.
