ChatGPT started as a tool to write essays and code through text prompts and has now evolved and is taking the world by storm. The company has released a new pilot for ChatGPT group chats. The feature lets you create group chats and have random conversations with your friends or coworkers. The feature is currently available only in Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, and Taiwan for free for Go, Plus, and Pro plans. However, it will soon be available for everybody.

What are ChatGPT group chats?

ChatGPT group chat is just like any other shared chat where more than 2 people can be added to a group and have a conversation. It is quite similar to WhatsApp group chats, just with an AI twist.

This chat will help you plan things better with the help of AI and possibly make decisions quickly because ChatGPT will give real-time suggestions. This will make the experience more practical and collaborative.

Why does this feature matter?

If you’re planning to eat outside and you want people to agree with you, you just have to go to the chat, talk to people, and decide faster based on the suggestions given to you by GPT. This makes the plan more efficient and quicker for deciding on anything.

Familiar format, smarter capabilities

It is not something new; there are plenty of other platforms where you can have group chats, but ChatGPT seamlessly makes it better by providing relevant information.

Are there privacy concerns?

Of course, with any AI-powered feature, especially one involving multiple people, privacy becomes a major talking point. Users may wonder: Who can see my data? What does the AI retain? How does this affect group privacy?

OpenAI says ChatGPT follows the same policies as regular chats, but many users will still want more clarity on how information is handled when multiple participants and an AI share the same space. It’s something worth keeping an eye on as the feature expands globally.

Limited rollout

As of now, the pilot is only available to four countries – Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, and New Zealand. However, the broadcast release is most likely to happen soon.

Final thoughts: A peek at the future of messaging?

ChatGPT group chats don't appeal to me personally, but you never know when this will become a new norm, given that ChatGPT has become an integrated part of everybody’s life.
