Pak PM vows revenge
A day after India executed “Operation Sindoor” against nine terror sites in Pakistan and PoK, Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif has vowed retaliation. Following a National Security Council meeting, PM Sharif said that Pakistan will “take this war to the end”.
Citing Article 51 of the UN Charter, Pakistan has claimed the right to respond, in self-defence, “at a time, place, and manner of its choosing”.
Russia attacks Ukraine hours before ceasefire
In international news, hours before Russia’s unilateral 3-day ceasefire was to begin - Ukraine's President Zelenskyy said that a Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv killed two people. In total, Russia is said to have launched four ballistic missiles and 142 drones overnight.
Slamming Russia, President Zelenskyy said that "only significantly intensified pressure on Russia and stronger sanctions can pave the way to diplomacy".
Black smoke = Search for Pope goes on
To the Vatican now and the search for the next Pope will go on. Black smoke was seen emerging from the Sistine Chapel's chimney at around 9 pm local time following the first vote of the Conclave.
The 133 College of Cardinals will return on Thursday morning to a closed-door Sistine Chapel for more rounds of voting.
US Fed keeps key rates unchanged; US stock market ends in green
The US Federal Reserve has decided to keep the key benchmark interest rates unchanged for the second time in a row. Under fire from Trump, US Fed Chairman Jerome Powell said that he is in no hurry to cut interest rates due to the high level of uncertainty in the US economy and inflation risk imposed by the high tariffs on imports.
The US stock market seems to have liked that as key indices - the S&P 500, Dow Jones and Nasdaq - all ended in the green.
PSG dumps Arsenal out of UCL
English side Arsenal have crashed out of the UEFA Champions League following a 2-1 loss on the night to tournament favourites Paris Saint Germain. Having won the tie with a 3-1 aggregate score, the French side will now take on Italy’s Inter Milan in the final on the first of June.
CSK beats KKR to snap losing streak
Bottom of the IPL 2025 table Chennai Super Kings snapped a losing streak to beat KKR. CSK chased down KKR’s total of 179 to win by 2 wickets and 2 balls remaining.
