Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday lashed out at the opposition for asking how many of India’s aircraft were shot down during Operation Sindoor.

Calling the question out of sync with national sentiment, Singh said that if the opposition must ask a question, it should be whether India destroyed terrorist bases. And the answer to that, he added, was yes.

Speaking in the Lok Sabha during a discussion on Operation Sindoor, the Defence Minister also said that none of India’s soldiers were harmed during the operation.

Opposition protest against Bihar SIR

The opposition has intensified its protest against the Special Intensive Revision of the voters' list in Bihar.

Several MPs from the INDIA bloc, including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, protested in the Parliament House complex as well.

The opposition has been demanding a rollback of the exercise being undertaken by the Election Commission.

SC on Justice Varma’s plea

The Supreme Court on Monday questioned Allahabad High Court judge Yashwant Varma over his plea seeking the invalidation of a report by an in-house inquiry panel.

The probe panel had found Justice Varma guilty of misconduct in the cash discovery row.

The dog bites menace

The apex court has taken suo motu cognisance of a report on dog bites leading to rabies. A bench of Justices J B Pardiwala and R Mahadevan noted that the report contained some alarming and disturbing figures and facts.

They directed that the issue be placed before the Chief Justice of India. Congress MP Karti Chidambaram, who has been raising this issue for months, welcomed the move.

Weak start for market

Indian equities started the week on a weak note, with sharper cuts in the second half of the session. The Sensex ended the day down almost one per cent, dropping below 81,000. The Nifty also saw a similar decline.
