The Indian ODI skipper may feature in India A vs Australia A games to gear up for the big tour
Rohit Sharma fans may not have to wait until the Australia ODI series to see the Hitman back in action. According to reports, the Indian ODI captain is considering an early return through the India A vs Australia A unofficial ODI series, scheduled for September 30, October 3 and October 5.
The move comes as part of his preparation for the upcoming full-fledged tour of Australia. Rohit has been away from competitive cricket since March 2025, when he played a match-winning knock in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy against New Zealand. Notably, he also skipped the entire IPL 2025 season, sparking speculation around his fitness and future. But now, with training sessions underway and a clear focus on regaining match sharpness, Rohit is quietly making moves.
At 38, Rohit has already stepped away from Test and T20I formats. He is now dedicated solely to the 50-over format, but the road ahead isn’t entirely smooth. With the 2027 World Cup on the horizon and the team undergoing transition, there are questions about whether Rohit will still be in the mix when the tournament begins—he’ll be 40 by then.
However, this possible early return suggests that the veteran batter isn’t ready to fade into the background just yet. Opting to play in unofficial ODIs indicates a desire to build rhythm, regain form, and show the selectors he’s still got what it takes—on his own terms.
The India A vs Australia A series will act as a preparatory ground not just for Rohit, but also for several fringe players looking to make a mark. For Rohit, though, it’s more than just game time—it’s a quiet statement of intent.
In a cricketing world where returns are often hyped and dramatic, Rohit’s style is refreshingly simple: show up, get to work, and let the bat do the talking. Whether this leads to a World Cup berth or not remains to be seen—but for now, the Hitman is back in motion.
And that, in itself, is something fans will be thrilled about.
