Trump sends NG troops to quell LA immigration protests
US President Donald Trump has sent in National Guard troops to quell protests against immigration raids in downtown Los Angeles with security forces firing tear gas and rubber bullets.
The clashes come on the third day of Trump’s immigration crackdown, with dozens of people, including undocumented migrants, rounded up in raids across LA by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers.
Trump has justified deployment of the National Guard by citing a provision of Title 10 of the US Code on the Armed Forces.
Californian Governor Gavin Newsom has likened the actions as the “act of dictator, not a President”.
IDF says it has located & identified body of top Hamas military leader
Shifting focus to the Middle East, Israel Defense Forces have said it has located and identified the body of Mohammed Sinwar, Hamas’ military leader.
His body was discovered in a tunnel underneath the European Hospital in the southern city of Khan Younis in Gaza, the IDF said on Sunday.
Sinwar, 49, was killed in an air strike on May 13, which the Hamas-run civil defence agency said killed 28 people and injured dozens.
IDF said it had verified the body's identity through DNA checks - though Hamas has not publicly confirmed his death.
Israeli commandos seize the Madleen in international waters
Moving on, Israeli commandos have intercepted the Madleen in international waters and forced everyone on board to turn off their phones according to the Freedom Flotilla Coalition.
In a statement, the FFC said the ship was “unlawfully boarded, its unarmed civilian crew abducted, and its life-saving cargo—including baby formula, food and medical supplies—confiscated”.
In response, the Israeli ministry took to X to declare that “the 'selfie yacht' of the 'celebrities' is safely making its way to the shores of Israel”.
Carlos Alcaraz defends French Open Title
And in sports news, Carlos Alcaraz rallied from two sets down and saved three match points to beat Jannik Sinner in one of the greatest comebacks in the history of the fabled French Open.
The victory means Alcaraz has won at Roland Garros for a second straight year resulting in his fifth Grand Slam title in as many finals.
