“Make sure they get the food”: Trump to Netanyahu
US President Donald Trump, during a visit to the UK, for the first time acknowledged the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said that Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu needs to better utilise the money and food being received in aid. Furthermore, Trump urged Netanyahu “to make sure they get the food, every ounce of food”.
This after Netanyahu claimed it was a “bold-faced lie” to say Israel was causing hunger in Gaza.
Trump gives Putin new deadline for Ukraine peace deal
Staying with Trump, the US President sped up the timeline for his Russian counterpart, Putin, to reach a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.
Two weeks have already passed since Trump threatened to act within 50 days. The new deadline of “10-12 days” means the US president has given Putin about 25 fewer days to deliberate. Furthermore, Trump reiterated his threat to impose additional sanctions on both Russia and buyers of its exports unless progress is made.
1 police officer killed, three injured in shooting at New York City skyscraper
Shifting focus to the US. A police officer was fatally shot and three others have been injured after a shooting at a New York City skyscraper. New York City's Police Commissioner said that “the scene has been contained and the lone shooter has been neutralised”.
Police are yet to confirm the identity of the suspect.
30+ dead in Beijing floods, 80,000 people relocated
Shifting focus to Asia, at least 30 people have died in Beijing after northern China experienced days of heavy rains and flooding. Chinese authorities have relocated 80,000 people as the rains are forecast to continue for Tuesday.
Thailand and Cambodia honour “unconditional” ceasefire
Moving on, Thailand and Cambodia have ceased their deadly border clashes as a truce agreement came into effect in the early hours of Tuesday. Remember, both sides had agreed on an “unconditional” ceasefire starting at midnight on Monday to bring to a halt the worst fighting between the neighbouring countries in more than a decade.
