US President Donald Trump, during his trip to South Korea, declared his “great respect and love” for PM Narendra Modi as the US-India trade deal progressed as expected.

Furthermore, he reiterated his claims that only the threat of US sanctions kept the India-Pakistan conflict from escalating into a full-blown war.

Pak Def Minister blames India as Afghan peace talks fail

Staying with Pakistan, authorities today confirmed that the 4-day peace talks with the Afghan Taliban have failed.

Following the failed talks, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif wildly accused Kabul of acting as a tool for New Delhi to spread terror in his country. However, Kabul dismissed the allegations by Islamabad as baseless.

Park Street gangrape convict named in 5-star Kolkata hotel case

In other news - Nasir Khan, convicted in the 2012 Park Street gang rape case, is among the two people charged with sexually harassing and attacking a woman at a 5-star hotel in Kolkata.

In her complaint, the woman alleged that Khan picked a fight with her, and her husband, during which Khan and his nephew, Junaid tried to assault her and touch her inappropriately.

No arrests have been made so far.

Israeli military kills 100 as tenuous ceasefire is tested

From the Middle East, in another test of the tenuous ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, strikes by the Israeli military reportedly killed 100 people, including at least 35 children.

US President Donald Trump said Israel “hit back” after a soldier was “taken out” but claims “nothing is going to jeopardise” the ceasefire.

Rohit Sharma scripts history at age 38

And finally, Rohit Sharma scripted history by becoming the oldest Indian cricketer to claim the top spot in the ICC ODI batting rankings.

At the age of 38 years and 182 days, Rohit rose two places to become the World No. 1 for the first time in his career, displacing current India captain Shubman Gill. Rohit’s historic rise to the top was a result of his stunning performance in the recently-concluded ODI series against Australia where he was declared the 'Player of the Series'.
