US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has hinted that India could be the first country to finalise a bilateral trade agreement with the US since President Trump announced his “Liberation Day” tariffs.
Speaking at the White House press briefing, Bessent told reporters that the “Indian negotiations are moving well” and that the US is “very close” to a deal on trade.
US President Donald Trump called Amazon founder Jeff Bezos after it was reported that the US-based retail giant planned to detail the cost of the trade tariffs to its customers.
This after a report said that Amazon was looking into itemising the impact for shoppers using Amazon Haul, a low-cost site it launched in the US last year to compete with Shein and Temu.
Amazon, though, said the idea was dismissed and was never under consideration for its main platform.
