US National Guard Deployed in Washington DC

The US National Guard, an American military reserve force, has been deployed to the streets of Washington DC. Guard members have begun patrolling the streets of the American capital after US President Donald Trump declared a “Crime Emergency” in the city. Trump justified the emergency by claiming that violent crime is rampant in DC. Trump is also using the emergency to remove homeless people from the capital. The White House has announced that if homeless people in DC refuse to cooperate with the Trump crackdown, they could be sent to jail.

US Announces Criminal Charges against Haitian Gang Leader “Barbecue”

Meanwhile, US prosecutors have announced criminal charges against Jimmy Cherizier, a Haitian gang leader who goes by the alias “Barbecue”. “Barbecue” is a former police officer who now runs one of the largest gangs in the Caribbean nation. Haiti has been facing a security crisis for years, with gangs having overrun the country. US prosecutors have now charged “Barbecue”, and a childhood friend of his, with evading American sanctions to finance gang activities. The US is offering $5 million for information leading to his arrest.

South Korea’s former First Lady Arrested on Corruption Charges

South Korea’s former first lady, Kim Keon Hee, has been arrested on corruption charges. Kim is the wife of impeached former President, Yoon Suk Yeol. Kim has been charged with manipulating stock prices for personal gain, violating political funding laws, and accepting luxury gifts in exchange for favourable treatment. Her husband, former President Yoon Suk Yeol, is in custody over his failed attempt to impose martial law last December. Kim's arrest means that both members of South Korea’s former Presidential couple are now in detention.
