The United States has said it will continue working with India to combat the global scourge of terrorism. The statement from the US State Department has come a day after 26/11 Mumbai terror accused Tahawwur Hussain Rana was extradited from the US and brought to India.
“Global Scourge Of Terrorism”
Speaking on Rana’s extradition, US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said, "On April 9th, the United States extradited Tahawwur Hussain Rana to India to face justice for his role in planning the horrific 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks. These attacks resulted in the tragic loss of 166 lives, including six Americans, that shocked the entire world.”
Underlining US President Donald Trump’s stance on the issue the US State Department spokesperson added, “The United States has long supported India's efforts to ensure those responsible for these attacks are brought to justice, and as President Trump has said, the United States and India will continue to work together to combat the global scourge of terrorism. He is in their possession, and we are very proud of that dynamic."
‘India Didn’t Forget’
Tahawwur Hussain Rana, an accused in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks case, arrived in India on Thursday, following his extradition by the US. The Indian government released an image of Rana, with a caption reading, “India didn’t forget. India waited. PM Modi ensured justice. 26/11 mastermind Tahawwur Rana has been formally arrested by NIA upon arrival in Delhi, following his extradition from the US. Escorted by NSG and NIA officials, Rana now faces trial for his role in one of India’s deadliest terror attacks.”
18 Day NIA Custody
India’s National Investigation Agency formally arrested Rana upon his arrival in India on Thursday. He has now been sent to 18 days of NIA custody. The DSLSA Counsel representing Rana in the court said, “"The NIA sought 20 days of custody, and after a lot of deliberation, the court has given 18 days of custody. If NIA wants more time, then they will move an application.”
