In 1977, NASA launched the twin Voyager spacecraft, each of which had a very special time capsule called the Golden Record.

The Golden Record: A Message in a Disc

This gold-plated copper disc was created to convey to any intelligent alien species information about Earth's history, culture, and aspirations.

Carl Sagan and a crew put together the record, which has 115 images, natural sounds like wind, thunder, and whale song, along with 90 minutes of world music ranging from Beethoven to Indian classical ragas.

Also, it has greetings in 55 languages and even a printed message from then U.S. President Jimmy Carter.

The goal was not just to express curiosity, but also to convey peace and unity. With the message: “We are here, and we wish to connect".

Earth’s Cultural and Natural Diversity

The record communicates that Earth is home to a wide variety of cultures and life forms.

As the Voyager probes continue their journey beyond the solar system, they carry with them not just data but the essence of what it means to be human.
