Sherfane Rutherford has done fairly well — 229 runs so far. But beyond that? Nothing but tumbleweeds.
Shahrukh Khan has managed just 90 runs from 11 innings. Honestly, even extras have better stats some days. And Rahul Tewatia — once the master of the last-over miracle — looks like he’s misplaced his magic wand. Just 67 runs so far — not even a decent cameo, let alone a trailer.
Then there’s Rashid Khan — sure, he can bat, but banking on him to bail you out is like hoping your WiFi holds up during a power cut: technically possible, but let’s not pretend it’s a plan.
And Washington Sundar? The GT management is treating him like he’s in witness protection. Rarely picked, despite solid performances. Honestly, find me a funnier joke. I’ll wait.
The match against Mumbai Indians should’ve been a wake-up call for GT. Chasing just 156, they were cruising at 113/2 — everything looked smooth, vibes were immaculate.
But the moment the top three walked off, the rest of the team collapsed like a house of cards in a wind tunnel. Had it not been for Gerald Coetzee's cameo in the end, GT would have been on the other side of the result. And the South African pacer was also playing his second game of the season. Moreover, he isn't even a genuine batter. Had it been a bigger ask, the match was out of their reach.
So yeah, the verdict is loud and clear: If Gill, Sudharsan, and Buttler don’t deliver, GT’s batting has no backup plan. The rest of the squad? Mostly there for moral support, it seems. (
