A federal appeals court has temporarily reinstated US President Donald Trump’s tariffs a day after a trade court ruled that it exceeded the authorities granted to the president.
The Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit temporarily blocked the lower court’s decision but provided no reasoning, only giving the plaintiffs until June 5th to respond.
It granted an emergency motion from the Trump administration arguing that a halt is “critical for the country’s national security” with the White House applauding the move.
Moving on - Israel has signed off on the latest US ceasefire proposal for Gaza. This according to White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt.
Leavitt added that President Trump and special envoy Steve Witkoff have submitted the approved proposal to Hamas. Though when asked if Hamas had accepted the proposal, Leavitt has said, "Not to my knowledge".
Elsewhere, Israel has said it will establish 22 new settlements in the occupied West Bank, including the legalisation of outposts already built without government authorisation.
This after a security cabinet vote held in secret last week with the motion said to have been put forward by the far-right defence minister, Israel Katz.
Beyond the usual rhetoric, Katz said the settlement decision was also “a strategic move that prevents the establishment of a Palestinian state that would endanger Israel”.
The latest from the Canadian wildfires and the emergency in western Canada has spread to the northern province as thousands of people flee their homes.
Scott Moe, Premier of Saskatchewan has said that "the conditions being faced today are severe” as he declared a state of emergency.
More than 166 fires are actively burning across Canada, according to the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre with 84 of those fires being deemed "out of control".
Major blazes have also been reported in the provinces of Alberta, Ontario and British Columbia.
In sports news - Royal Challengers Bengaluru are through to the IPL 2025 finals for the first time since 2016 following the eight-wicket thrashing of Punjab Kings.
Kings were bowled out for 101, with RCB chasing down the target with half the innings to spare.
Kings though are not out yet and will now play the winner of Friday's match between Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians.
The winner of which will take up the other place in the title decider.
