Mark Carney has won the race to be Canada’s next Prime Minister according to Canadian media.
The Liberal Party leader and incumbent PM beat out Conservative Leader, Pierre Poilievre, as Canadians seemingly put their trust in him and his government amidst global turmoil.
Staying with the Canadian elections, US President Donald Trump - who completes his first 100 days in office - had urged Canadians to vote towards becoming "the cherished 51st State of the United States of America".
Moving to Europe - Spain has declared a state of emergency after a massive power outage hit large parts of the country as well as neighbouring Portugal, causing widespread disruption.
Spain Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez says authorities have not yet established why the outage occurred with his Portuguese counterpart saying that there was "no indication" of a cyber attack.
In a surprising twist - Russian President Vladimir Putin has unilaterally announced a temporary ceasefire in Ukraine from the morning of May 8 to 11.
In response, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called for an immediate ceasefire lasting "at least 30 days".
To the business world now - in the United States - the S&P 500 index eked out a gain of less than 0.1% on Monday, allowing the index to keep its winning streak alive. The Dow meanwhile added about 0.3%, while the Nasdaq Composite ticked 0.1% lower.
The three major indexes swung between gains and losses during a choppy session, ahead of a busy earnings week in the US.
And finally to the IPL. Rajasthan Royals’ 14-year old prodigy - Vaibhav Suryavanshi broke several world records on the way to his maiden T20 ton as the Royals chased down a target of 210 against Gujarat Titans with four overs to spare.
Vaibhav’s stellar innings saw him hit the fastest IPL 50, fastest IPL century by an Indian and as well as the youngest ever T20 centurion.
Overall, Suryavanshi is now the second fastest centurion in IPL after Chris Gayle's 30-ball knock for RCB.
