Do you love your morning cup of coffee? While coffee and tea have been go-to beverages for many, including celebrities, there’s a quiet little revolution bubbling up. Lately, more and more celebrities are trading in their coffee for other options.
Reaching for drinks that still pack that energising punch—but with added health benefits—stars from Bollywood to Hollywood are changing the way they wake up in the morning!
In 2017, 'The Greatest Showman' star shared her daily routine with Harper's Bazaar, and revealed that she does not drink coffee. She said, "I don't drink coffee; it doesn't do anything for me. I don't drink energy drinks or soda, either. And I hate water."
So, what is Zendaya's go-to source of hydration? Revealing her drink of choice, Zendaya admitted, "I'm a juice drinker but not fancy-people juice."
In a 2017 interview with GQ, international star Brad Pitt revealed his love for matcha tea. He revealed that he has recently started loving matcha tea, after a friend introduced it to him. The star just does not like drinking it, he also loves the whole ritual around it. During this interview in 2017 he even made a hot cup of matcha for the interviewer!
And then there's Selena Gomez, who’s frequently seen carrying her matcha around like a trusted bestie. It's not just a trend for the ‘gram — it's become a part of her lifestyle.
Back home in India too, the shift is catching on. Legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan has spoken about making healthier choices in his diet, including moving away from coffee and chai.
In an interview with ETimes, Amitabh had revealed that he has quit all forms of drinking and only has nimbu pani (lemon water). He said, “I left drinking about 35 years ago. And a couple of years back, I left chai and coffee. And I don’t drink aerated drinks. I have water, nimboo pani bhi pee lete hain.”
Shahid Kapoor, known for his fitness routine, was also rumoured to have given up his beloved coffee during the shoot of 'Padmaavat.’ Per what a source told Hindustan Times, "Shahid isn’t just a coffee lover but is addicted to it, especially to the strong and black brews. For his new film, Padmavati – that is being directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali – he is following a particular diet, which doesn’t allow any caffeine intake. And like a professional, Shahid has readily given up his much-loved caffeine."
And Sanya Malhotra? She’s practically a matcha loyalist, often sharing glimpses of her bright green cup of energy.
But here's the thing — quitting coffee doesn't mean giving up caffeine altogether. In fact, matcha still offers a gentle boost, and contains caffeine. According to a report by Healthline, matcha contains around 19–44 mg of caffeine per gram. A standard 2–4 gram serving packs about 38–176 mg of caffeine, depending on the powder and brewing method.
However, thanks to matcha’s high antioxidant content and the presence of L-theanine, studies suggest the caffeine is released more slowly into the bloodstream. That means you get sustained energy without the sharp spikes or dreaded crashes that coffee sometimes brings.
So, will you follow the celeb way and make the switch too? Before making any changes to your diet, though, make sure to consult a medical professional!
