We bet even you cannot stop watching and rewatching Ed Sheeran’s latest music video, ‘Sapphire.’ Starring Arijit Singh and Shah Rukh Khan, this music video is going crazy viral. But while everyone was swooning over SRK’s blink-and-miss cameo, you might’ve missed the cultural love letter hidden in plain sight. Did you notice the many iconic Indian places Ed Sheeran visited?
Sapphire brings together the worlds of British pop and Indian soul in an unexpectedly seamless duet between Ed Sheeran and Arijit Singh. But this is more than just a collab, it’s a cultural crossover.
The duo does not just collab on the song, but Arijit gave the international singer a full desi experience with a bike ride throughout the streets of his hometown, Murshidabad, West Bengal.
The camera captures narrow lanes, lush ghats, and moments between two great singers.
The video opens at Khari Baoli in Delhi, Asia’s largest spice market. In just a few seconds, the frame can be seen focusing on the rustic monuments of the trade market. This market, built in the 17th century, is still today the largest wholesale spice market.
We also spotted Ed Sheeran exploring the ‘Baahubali’ sets in Hyderabad, taking an auto ride in the city and exploring the Hyderabadi markets.
After he was done shooting, or to take a break, Ed Sheeran enjoyed the perfect head massage aka Champi in Chennai. The desi-style head massage is what you need to scare away the stress!
We all knew that Shah Rukh Khan met the iconic singer in Mumbai. What we did not know back then, however, was that the duo was shooting for the ‘Sapphire’ video! SRK’s two-second cameo has gone viral, and we, of course, know why!
Some other visuals showed Ed Sheeran soaking in India’s vibrant charm, riding a local bus, dancing in a lively café, exploring the grand Baahubali sets, and gazing at the Hooghly River from a barge in Kolkata. Shot largely in POV, the camera follows Sheeran’s journey across cities up close.
So next time you hit replay, take a moment to look beyond SRK, and spot the many stories hidden in each frame.
