India has neutralised Pakistan's attempt to target fifteen Indian cities with missiles, and has also hit back at Pakistan's air defence system. According to a government statement, Pakistan used missiles and drones on the intervening night of May 7 and 8 for the attacks which were neutralised by India.
In response India targeted air defence radars and systems across Pakistan this morning. The Indian armed forces neutralised the air defence system in Lahore. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said at least 100 terrorists were eliminated in the Indian strikes across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir during Operation Sindoor on May 7. According to a PTI report quoting sources, Singh shared this information at an all-party meeting.
In Jammu and Kashmir, at least sixteen civilians have died due to heavy shelling by Pakistan along the Line of Control. Pakistan has intensified ceasefire violations following Operation Sindoor. The Indian Army has responded proportionately.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting with secretaries of various ministries and departments on Thursday. The meeting reviewed national preparedness and inter-ministerial coordination. In light of recent developments concerning national security, PM stressed the need for seamless coordination.
Over 300 flights have been cancelled across India amid rising military activity along the western border. Airspace restrictions are now in place across parts of northern and western India, following India’s missile strikes on terror targets inside Pakistan. As a result, up to 25 airports — including Srinagar, Jammu, Leh, Amritsar, and Chandigarh — have been temporarily shut. The Pakistan Stock Exchange halted operations during the day after the benchmark index, KSE-100, tanked nine percent, marking the biggest single-day fall since 2008. The exchange later resumed trading, with KSE-100 deep in the red at the time of writing.
Indian equities ended the day lower. The Sensex dropped to nearly 80,500, and the Nifty slipped below 24,500. Eternal, the parent company of Zomato, and Adani Enterprises were the key laggards in Thursday’s trade.
