US President Donald Trump has called his first 100 days, after his return to the White House, the most successful 100 days in US history. Trump has made this statement at a time when he has slapped unprecedented tariffs on most trading partners of the Unites States, triggering a global market meltdown.
"We're going to continue that way"
Trump highlighted his administration’s achievements. He stated, "I had somebody say the most successful first month... now they said the most successful 100 days in the history of our country, and I believe that's right — and we're going to continue that way, if not more so."
"President for the workers"
In the same speech, Trump declared, "I’m proud to be the President for the workers, not the outsourcers; the President who stands up for Main Street, not Wall Street; who protects the middle class, not the political class; and who defends America, not trade cheaters all over the globe." This was part of a broader narrative emphasizing support for American workers and businesses, delivered as markets grappled with the fallout of his tariff-driven economic strategy.
They are kissing my…: Trump on tariff
On trade, Trump remarked, "These countries are calling me, kissing my a**, they are dying to make a [trade] deal...'please please sir let me make a deal, I'll do anything, I'll do anything sir.'" He also singled out China, saying, "China has ripped us off left and right. But now it's our turn to do the rippin." These statements coincided with a tariff hike on China, raising the total rate to 104% after an additional 50% was imposed on the same day as his speech.
Policy actions within the first 80 days
By April 9, 2025, Trump had signed over 80 executive orders, including measures to tighten border security, deport undocumented immigrants, and reverse environmental regulations like the Paris Climate Agreement withdrawal.
The Trump administration also claims to have secured $500 billion in private sector AI investment. However, efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act stalled, and legal challenges mounted against orders like the one ending birthright citizenship.
Trade war: Biggest highlight
The biggest highlight of the first 100 days of Donald Trump's second tenure as the US President has been the tariff war. On April 2, the United States imposed a baseline 10 per cent tariff on all countries, and much higher tariffs on around 60 countries. While most countries are yet to firm up their responses, China has taken retaliatory steps, leading to a trade war between the two countries. Retaliating to China's move, US has now imposed 104% tariff on Chinese goods.
