DEATH TOLL IN THAILAND-CAMBODIA CLASHES RISES TO 14
At least 14 people have died after cross-border clashes between Thailand and Cambodia erupted on Thursday. And these are just the Thai figures, as Cambodia hasn’t confirmed any casualties yet. Bangkok says that more than 100,000 people have been evacuated from its border provinces and moved to shelters. Cambodians have been fleeing from border areas as well. The latest clashes between the two southeast Asian nations began early on Thursday. Troops from both nations exchanged gunfire, each accusing the other of firing first. Cambodia fired rockets and artillery at Thailand. Thailand launched airstrikes targeting military installations in Cambodia. China, the EU and the US have all called for de-escalation.
FRANCE TO OFFICIALLY RECOGNISE PALESTINE
French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that his country will officially recognise the state of Palestine. He wrote that he is doing so to keep with France’s “historic commitment to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.” Macron says the decision will be finalised at the United Nations General Assembly in September. France will join fellow European nations Ireland, Norway, Spain and Slovenia in recognising Palestine since the Gaza war began. Once it is formalised, France will become the 148th UN member state to recognise Palestine. The remaining holdouts include major Western powers such as the US, Britain and Germany.
Hulk Hogan died on Thursday at the age of 71. Hulk Hogan was the stage name for the professional wrestler Terry Bollea. He was one of the biggest wrestling stars in the 1980s and 90s, helping what was then the World Wrestling Federation or WWF surge in popularity. Hulk Hogan's passing was announced by WWE as its now known. Reports say that Hulk Hogan suffered a heart attack, and was pronounced dead by the time he was taken to the hospital.
