Meta is stepping directly into the AI ring—and it’s not pulling any punches. The company has launched its standalone Meta AI app, a direct rival to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
But while the basics are what you’d expect from any chatbot, Meta’s twist is what makes this one stand out: it’s more social. Yep, your AI chats might just go viral.
AI meets social media: the Discover Feed
Meta wants its chatbot to feel less like a productivity tool and more like an extension of your digital self. The standout feature has to be the Discover Feed—a social-style feed where you can share your best prompts and responses, or scroll through what others are doing with the AI.
Whether it's asking Meta AI to describe you in emojis or remixing someone else’s wild idea, it’s a scrollable feed of AI-powered creativity. The good news? Nothing is shared unless you post it yourself. So your weird late-night prompts are safe—unless you want them to go viral.
Talk to it like a human
The new Meta AI app also steps up its voice game. The voice mode is now more conversational, more natural, and sounds less like a robot reading a Wikipedia page. It even features full-duplex voice tech, meaning Meta’s AI can now talk back in real time—no awkward pauses, no monotone narration.
The voice feature is still in demo phase, and you might run into a few glitches. Also, it doesn’t have real-time web access yet. But it gives a solid glimpse of what AI chats could sound like in the near future.
Currently, voice mode and the full-duplex demo are available only in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
Image editing, Ray-Ban glasses, and more
It’s not just about chat. The Meta AI app integrates other tools too, like image generation and editing, all within a single conversation. You can tweak visuals with text or voice and generate images on the fly. Basically, it’s a one-stop AI shop.
This also ties into Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses. With Meta planning to bring the glasses to India, this app will become the go-to hub for managing voice, visual, and AI features across the Meta ecosystem. In some countries, the app is already replacing the Meta View app for glasses users.
Not a ChatGPT clone
Meta’s new AI app is more than just a ChatGPT clone—it’s trying to be the cool, social version. With features that blend TikTok vibes with serious AI tools, it’s a sneak peek into how future apps might look. Whether it sticks or not, Meta’s definitely not here to play safe.
