Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) just pulled off one of its boldest campaigns yet: a full-on wedding ceremony inside the game. The three-day virtual shaadi featured everything from mehendi to sangeet, complete with custom designer outfits and a live in-game concert, marking what Krafton claims is India’s biggest in-game wedding.
The event centred around Tanupreet and Jaspreet, a couple from Meerut who met while playing BGMI. What started with casual squad-ups and synergy milestones eventually turned into a connection both in-game and IRL. To celebrate, Krafton went all in — turning the battleground into a digital mandap.
From chicken dinner to wedding dinner
The wedding festivities ran from April 8 to April 11, kicking off with a mehendi ceremony, followed by a sangeet featuring a live virtual performance by singer Benny Dayal, and culminating in the big fat digital wedding. Legendary designer Ritu Beri created custom BGMI-themed wedding avatars for the bride and groom.
Adding to the hype were celebrity shoutouts from the likes of Karan Johar and Neeraj Chopra, who joked online about not receiving invites.
A campaign that’s more than a gimmick
Krafton India says this isn’t just about pulling off a PR stunt. According to Krafton, the idea was to show that BGMI isn’t just a game — it’s a space where relationships, community, and even love can take root.
The campaign also played out across social media with influencer unboxings, celebrity memes, and community reactions, pushing it well beyond the usual gaming crowd.
Up next: The shaadi duo event
BGMI is keeping the theme going with a special Shaadi Duo event from May 20 to June 1. Players can team up in Duo Mode, complete challenges, and earn a limited-edition Space Gift Box — a nod to in-game connections and camaraderie.
The event isn’t just for couples. Whether you’ve found friendship, rivalry, or romance in the lobby, BGMI wants players to explore the social side of its ecosystem through features like Synergy, Connection Requests, and Love Connection.
So while most are in it for the chicken dinner, some — apparently — are staying for the experience.
