A ceasefire between Afghanistan and Pakistan moved into its second day on Friday, following deadly violence between the neighbouring countries.

But Islamabad has said the Afghan Taliban were influenced by India and labelled the conflict as a ‘proxy war.’ India responded quickly and firmly.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said “Pakistan hosts terrorist organisations and sponsors terrorist activities. It is an old habit of Pakistan to put blame on neighbours.”

He added that Islamabad is infuriated with Afghanistan exercising sovereignty over its own territories. India remains fully committed to the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence of Afghanistan."

Trump’s second meeting with Putin in 2025

US President Donald Trump said he would meet Russia's Vladimir Putin in Hungary after a "very productive" call Thursday, and questioned Kyiv's push for Tomahawk missiles just a day before hosting Ukraine's leader at the White House.

In his latest abrupt pivot on Russia's 2022 invasion, Trump said he expected to meet Putin in Budapest within the next two weeks for what would be their second summit since the American's return to power. The Kremlin welcomed the "extremely frank and trustful" call and said it was immediately preparing for the summit.

Madagascar gets new leader after coup

Army colonel Michael Randrianirina was sworn in as Madagascar's president Friday, just days after a military power grab that sent ex-president Andry Rajoelina fleeing.

Randrianirina, who led the CAPSAT army unit that mutinied and joined anti-government protesters at the weekend, read out the presidential oath at a ceremony at the country's top court in the capital Antananarivo.

"Today marks a historic turning point for our country. With a people in full fervor, driven by the desire for change and a deep love for their homeland, we joyfully open a new chapter in the life of our nation," Randrianirina said.

New T20 captain for Pakistan?

Reports say Salman Ali Agha is set to be sacked as Pakistan T20 International captain after three back-to-back losses against India in the Asia Cup. All-rounder Shadab Khan may replace Agha as the skipper, just a year before the T20 World Cup.

While the change in guard has not been confirmed by the Pakistan Cricket Board yet, reports say the move is largely attributed to the Asia Cup performance. Agha’s personal performance in the tournament was notably poor too.

India finished unbeaten to retain the Asia Cup title -- they won the last edition in the 50-over format -- but Suryakumar Yadav's team did not collect the trophy in Dubai.

The presentation ceremony took more than an hour to get going with media reports saying India did not want to get the trophy from Pakistan Cricket Board chief and head of Asian Cricket Council Mohsin Naqvi.
